Changes To Dog Friendly Beaches In Torrevieja

Post: # 6126Post Carl »

Although no formal press communication has been issued by the Mayor, according to the article below a decree was issued at the end of last month revoking Punta Margallo and Cala del Moro as dog friendly beaches and designating Cala del Rocío as the new, sole, dog friendly beach.

Interesting - does not look particularly 'friendly' to me. Not sure where that is - is it near Rocio del Mar?
Sorry - your edit answers my question!

A very underhanded piece of work by the Mayor. No wonder politicians are not to be trusted by the public. Hopefully it comes back to bite him

Good pun Bee. "...... comes back to bite him" when discussing dog beaches.

The Mayor has been out explaining his actions regarding the new dog friendly beach which is proving to be a bit controversial from all sides. A bit from the article

https://www.diarioinformacion.com/vega- ... 71401.html

A cove with 1,600 square meters will have signage, fencing, water point with hose, hook for animals and shady spaces. An agility point and access ramps are also part of the submission with Costas. Dolón said that the decree was the same bureaucratic tool used by the previous Council to authorize the canine areas. He said it was his intention to include the new beach area for dogs in a forthcoming press conference regarding the use of beaches this week.

Thanks for that Bee.

Have to admit that although I have walked this coastline many times, I am struggling to work out where this new designated dog beach actually is located. With the exception of Cala Ferris, the stretch of coastline between Nautilus and Mar Azul is largely rocky so not particularly suitable for dog paws.

There is a map here on torrevieja.com
https://torrevieja.com/playas-para-perr ... orrevieja/

It does say it is accessible only on foot.

Thank you for that Bee.

Probably the furthest south beach within the Torrevieja town limits, as I think Playa Rocio del Mar may come under Punta Prima, albeit Torrevieja Town Hall has responsibility for the beaches up to the main Punta Prima Beach which falls under Orihuela.

I can understand why the Mayor would have picked the location, being a rocky area it is not a location that would attract sunbathers and it is not near residential properties.

Not sure the location will be attractive to many dog loving beachgoers from Torrevieja though. Lack of parking and probably to far out for people to travel/walk from the main residential areas in Torrevieja.

The area is only accessible by foot, although there is a single unmade hardcore track (map says Calle Acantilado) used by service vehicles (beach cleaning vehicles) which links Punta Prima to Mar Azul.
