Community pools
There`s a lot of confusion about the opening of community pools.
I`m fully aware of all the stringent conditions relating to public pools but in practice they are totally impractical and unworkable with a community pool, which is in essence, private.
Even for a small community like ours, you need a lifeguard or someone employed to monitor peoples behavior, employ someone to clean and disinfect all metal parts three times a day, add chemicals to the pool, utilise an appointment system for people wishing to use the pool, install
hand sanitisers at the entrance(s) to the pool.. the list goes on and on. !!
I'm the President of our community and nowwhere can I obtain specific directives for community pools. I spoken to our Administrator and the Town Hall and keep getting conflicting information.
One local Adminstrator has told all fifteen communities that he looks after to not open the pool until the end of lockdown yet our Administrator has told me to do what I thinks best.`
Many small communities can ill afford to spend many hundreds of euros a month in employing people to just sit there all day watching people and as I don't get paid for being the President, blowed if I'm going to do it.
So in the light of insufficent guidance, I've decided to open the pool. We are very quiet at the moment with only a couple of residents, including ourselves and two long term renters. I`m not expecting any visitors until the end of June when the lockdown should be over and all restrictions lifted.

Re: Community pools
Well done James B.
That is the decision I too would take.
I have NEVER heard such utterly unnecessary guidance for a swimming pool which already has chlorine in it.
Good luck. Your community are so lucky to have a decisive president like you. Everyone seems to be scared of their shadows and won’t say boo to a goose when it comes to the Spanish authorities.
Enjoy your lovely pool and I hope all of the people using it follow your guidance.

Re: Community pools
Such a beautiful bird. Is 4 eggs the norm or is she happier now that life has quietened down?

It's about average. They can lay 2 to 8 eggs and I have two other girls sitting on eggs .. Kiki and Lulu .. although Lulu's partner is helping her.Rosiemac wrote: 06 Jun 2020 12:26 Such a beautiful bird. Is 4 eggs the norm or is she happier now that life has quietened down?

Re: Community pools
Our administrators in Villamartin are keeping the pools closed because of cost etc. I do like a bit of life now and again in the busier areas but I am just wondering if I can get over to Spain I might be better off in the quiet remote place I have with my own pool. I also like that restaurant outside near the large water fountain in Torrevieja on the corner. You would have thought with Chlorine and sun along with limited numbers that pools should be fine.

Re: Community pools
I think a lot of Adminstrators and Presidents are playing safe because of the absence of specific guidelines and of course the cost.
And living in a quiet remote place with your own pool has lots of pro's and con's Retire1day and needs careful research although were thinking of doing just that after 21 years here.
Yes we like Restaurante Alingui as well. Good value Spanish food.

Re: Community pools
Very sensible move to open the pool and let people police themselves. How could anything survive all the chlorine and concrete so hot in most cases that you can't even walk on it. I am interested in what they mean by after lockdown. Do the administrators believe that the rules governing pools will end. I would be delighted if they did as I have grandchildren who love the pool and if we have to make appointments to use it I would think we would never get a spot. We always seem to use the pool at different times to the Spanish residents in our community i.e they normally go to the beach in the morning and pool in the evening whereas we do the opposite.
Beautiful intelligent looking birds. Have we seen those before in another life
