Teaser Of The Day No. 295

#1

Post: # 51452Post Carl »

A detective is called to a possible murder scene.

Once he arrives, he sees that a man has fallen from an abandoned building, presumably from one of the many windows. His colleagues argue that the man likely did this to himself and this is not a case of murder. The detective pondered on this and moved inside the building to investigate.

He stood on the first floor in front of the window that faces the man and lights a cigarette. After a while, he puts out his cigarette, opens the window and throws it out before closing it again. He does this on the second floor as well as the third floor.

After this, he returns back to his colleagues certain that the man was indeed murdered.

How did he find this out during his smoke break ?

Answer will be provided next Thursday evening after 21:00.

It must have been a murder because the fact that he had to open every window means that someone pushed him out and closed the window.
If it was a suicide, he would have found an open window

ANSWER

While the detective was inside the building, he was able to confirm that every single window facing the man was closed. He had to open each one before throwing out his cigarette butt.

Anyone that would have accidentally fallen out of the window or done this to themselves would not have closed the window behind them before their fall.

The murderer must have locked it behind them.
