I would be interested in trying Jet2, but I have never found Jet2's 'friendly low fares' competitive enough. Perhaps I am turning into a scrooge, but I do not see the point in paying more than necessary on a 2½ hour short haul flight when the services provided by the likes of Ryanair, Easyjet and Jet2 are comparable.

One would have thought that being an inaugural flight, that they would have checked what other airlines are charging, and at least charge the same, not what is almost double the cost.

There was a time when inaugural flights would be for specially invited passengers, the press etc. to promote a route, or the tickets would be heavily discounted for the paying public to ensure at least the first flight was a sellout.

Maybe times have changed, possibly demand is high or people are happy to pay over the top for the bragging rights to claim the were on the inagurual Jet2 flight from Luton to Alicante.

Did have a quick look for a flight price comparison to the £182 Jet2 are charging for UK to Alicante. For exactly that same amount will get you on BA flight from London Gatwick to Alicante on exactly the same day with hand luggage. The BA flight with hold luggage allowance of 23kg is £204, which is roughly equivalent of the undiscounted Jet2 price for flight only Luton to Alicante at £202.20.
