Books that have influenced me are "Chariots of the Gods"
and "For those about to die"
The bible.

Too many others to mention, but the above kinda changed me a little..

One of my favourites, which I have re read many times is "Round the Bend" by Neville Shute.

When you read his books now you realise just how much we have changed in our views, if they were written now they probably would never be published.

A work of fiction set mainly around the middle East and the Persian Gulf, and an aircraft engineer who had the ability to bring his fellow engineers to worship whoever their God might be.

The uncomfortable part is just the way the authors charecters refer to people of colour, native Australians and such.

It is a trait that runs through a lot of Neville Shutes works including probably his most well know"A Town Like Alice"

It's something that was considered acceptable in the early 50s but now for me just does not sit right.

If you enjoyed the film then reading the book is a must. It follows through to her later life in Australia and how she goes about bringing change to bush town - hence the title. Up there also as one of my all time favourites. Reread on my last Spain visit in October.

I do enjoy non fiction..

another great one was Skittles....about a Liverpool girl, came to London and became a courtesan in the 19th century...

lovers were Dukes and other Royalty, started in Rotten Row, Hyde Park...

Went to London with the book in 1988.....most of the houses, dancehalls, cafes, hotels still there...Marvellous nostalgia....

I love any book by Charles Dickens and have read them all, but my most favourite has to be A Christmas Carol.
To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee and anything by John Steinbeck.
