I saw that Carl and it is a complete dock. I wonder what can they do with it. The stonework looks lovely. It would be a shame to cover it all up again.

Cannot quite make up in my mind whether the old dock was deliberately covered at some point to protect it, or it is was covered in error, or perhaps even deliberately covered for the car park.

One question is why have the archaeologists have only now decided to uncover it at the same time the port development is taking place, having known of its existence for decades and contained on the PGOU ?

Given the dock's proximity to the port development, I wonder whether there was anything else of historical interest within the boundaries of the development that perhaps were not recorded on the PGOU.

As you say Bee it would be a shame to cover it, but not sure what else they can do with it. It takes up quite a wide section of the quay next to the ferry. The protected civil war tunnels at Punta Prima simply had a basic mesh fence put around the their entrances by the residential developers and the apartment blocks were then built around them - sadly no one would know what they are to see them or perhaps even notice them as they walk by.

Was in the port area yesterday, if anyone was hoping to get a glimpse of the ancient dock then you will be disappointed. The excavation site has been fillled in with sand and nothing to indicate what lies beneath.
