As of early this morning 30 people have tested positive for the virus with 8 hospitalised.
Just to put the above into some context, the Torrevieja Health Service serves a population of approximately 160,000 residents living in Torrevieja, Pilar de la Horadada, Orihuela Costa , Guardamar del Segura, Rojales, San Miguel de Salinas, Los Montesinos, San Fulgencio and Benijófar. It is also worth bearing in mind that the population figure is currently higher than the 160,000 as many residents from Madrid have travelled to their summer residences in the area in the hope of escaping the 'lockdown' that was put in place in Madrid, prior to it now being extended countrywide. Some media reports indicate that the current population for the area could be on a par with that expected during the summer months.

It looks like the weather is also adding to the misery. Although I suppose it's easier to stay inside when it's raining rather than a nice sunny day when you want to be out and about.
