90/180 rule and EU passport query

Can anybody offer advice through their experience please?

My wife and I attended one of these ex-pat briefing meetings that are held weekly in the Torrevieja area (adverts are in all the freebie newspapers).

One of the presenters categorically stated that if I obtained an EU passport, which I can get through my Fathers bloodline, as long as I entered the EU with my wife and she had a copy of our marriage certificate, that she could 'piggy-back' on my EU passport and not be subject to the 90 in 180 rule. The other presenters agreed with him.

So my query is, has anybody with their own EU passport 'piggy-backed' their husband/wife into Spain?

Yes there are several posters on the Quesada Forum doing it. Your wife's UK passport will be stamped going into Spain but when you get your EU Passport you will just have to show it at the passport desk going into Spain and it won't be stamped. You will have the best of both worlds as you can use your UK passport at UK passport control and your EU passport when entering Spain/Schengen Area. The general cost of getting the EU passport works out at about €1000 with all the fees.

If you are referring to an Irish Passport and one or both of your parents were born on the Isle of Ireland, the only fees are for the passport itself (2 years ago I paid £70) and possibly the cost of copies of their Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate (2 years ago €20 each including postage to the UK).

If it's the grandparents born on the Isle of Ireland, then there is a fee of €270 for Registering a foreign birth.
Went through the process last year for nephew and niece.

chrisz hasn't said what nationality he is entitled to a passport under. Yes children are automatic my nieces and nephews who were born in the UK have theirs since they were born. It's when the relationship moves out to grandparents that it becomes costly due to record searches etc. I am sure I saw on the Irish Passport website one time a figure of €500 for something or other on their list of fees and on adding up everything it came near the €1K mark.

Where on earth do you get the time of two years from?
According to the UK Irish Embassy website, the turnaround time is 8 weeks
Mine was done in 3 weeks

….well I have gone back on the FDA website, and you are right…it takes a few weeks……!!Don’t know where I saw the 2 years bit, but it put me right off….
