This is something which we would like to know more about too, as like Stowie we drive out to Spain several times a year, and are not residents. I found a form after Googling about it, but it only seemed to refer to Barcelona, and when looking for how to describe our vehicle it didn't seem very clear, it gave motorcycles, vans etc, but the only description I could see that would fit a car was tourism. So any advice would be appreciated.

There is an excellent article on page 33 in this week´s Costa Blanca People freebie. I quote some of the relevant facts from that article below.

All towns & cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants will have low emission zones as from 1st January 2023, this includes Torrevieja, Elche & Alicante. Only vehicles displaying an eco-sticker will be allowed to enter the Low Emission Zone with fines issued to those who do not comply.

You can obtain your sticker at any main Post Office (Correos). Take your vehicle log book and driving licence, it will be issued on the spot for a fee of €5. You can also purchase on line at -

All of the above refers to Spanish registered vehicles only. I have no information about foreign plated vehicles.

On the FAQ page

Q.
I am a foreigner and I want to visit Spain with my vehicle, can I obtain the environmental sticker?

A.
The general direction of traffic is looking for a solution for these situations. At the moment you can come with your vehicle and visit the cities. We advise you to park in a public car park.

I'm curious as to how this will save the planet, but that apart, where are the boundaries to the EZ? How close to town will we be able to drive without a sticker?

I haven't seen anything from Torrevieja Town Hall yet. I presume some infrastructure will be needed to monitor the areas in the town that it will affect. There are already cameras as you enter Torrevieja so I presume it will be monitored by cameras which can read number plates and issue summons. I have 3 links from dgt so I will see if I can make any sense of them. One bit I did happen to see was a bit of joined up thinking whereby other European stickers would have an equivalence in Spain.

This link from Dgt is good and if you click on the different headings it will give the information needed on the categories

https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/vehiculos/di ... spondiente.

There are several countries in the European Union that have drawn up a classification to classify vehicles based on how polluting they are. In Spain it is not possible to issue environmental labels to vehicles with foreign registration, but it is not necessary. If you have a vehicle from a country with an environmental label (Germany, Austria, Denmark, France) we consider that you have the corresponding Spanish label.

In the following sections you can consult the equivalence between the classifications of the different countries. In this way you will be able to know the equivalent Spanish emblem of your vehicle, knowing what traffic restrictions may affect you, and being able to drive on our roads with the emblem of your country.

In the same way, local entities can identify through these tables the environmental category of foreign vehicles and know whether or not they can circulate based on the local regulations that have been developed.

Important. These equivalences are for driving in Spain, they are not valid in other countries. Therefore, if you are going to travel with your vehicle to Germany, Austria, Denmark, France or another country with an environmental cataloging system, you should inform yourself before going about whether it is necessary to obtain a badge in the country you are traveling to, how to do it and how to do it. the criteria to be able to circulate.

I don't know how these stickers work as we haven't had anything introduced in Ireland yet. stowie39 I hope the French crit air sticker is enough for you to satisfy the Spanish regs. I wonder does it have to be a vehicle registered in France or Germany or wherever tho. I am not too sure how to read it. We might see some kind of EU legislation that makes the Spanish regulation the norm. However where would that leave U.K registered vehicles?
