Use of T.I.E. card
Does anyone know
Just picked up our T.I.E Cards and realised just how much info is stored on them Does this now mean that we do not have to carry Passports around with us for such things as checking in to hotels etc in a similar way to the Spanish and their I.D. cards After all the T.I.E carries more info

Officially, for a UK citizen, the passport is the only official ID. However we have used our TIE to check into hotels with no problem.
Imagine though, if you arrived without your passport and a jobsworth refused to accept your TIE. I would recommend taking your passport unless you check that the hotel will accept your TIE.
For we UK people the TIE is only ID in Spain and their islands.

Yes elcarretero is correct but I never carry a wallet, so I never carry credit cards or ID on me.
But I do have my passport reduced down and laminated into credir card size which I keep in the car.
But prior to getting my TIE card my spanish driving licence was always excepted as suitable ID.

When we checked into a hotel in Avila recently we were asked for our passports, when we said that we did not have them only our TIE cards as we were residents the receptionist said "oh fine"and gave us a free room upgrade.

Because you had your TIE's and not your passports.Army of stars wrote: 08 Jun 2021 15:29 When we checked into a hotel in Avila recently we were asked for our passports, when we said that we did not have them only our TIE cards as we were residents the receptionist said "oh fine"and gave us a free room upgrade.
Well, Steve, if that's not a compelling reason to change from the old green A4 to to the new TIE, I don't know what it is.
When the British Ambassador to Spain, Hugh Elliot, posted a video on Facebook recently, informing people that the British and Spanish Governments are advising that anyone with a green A4 residencia should exchange it for the new TIE, he outlined the advantage's, but he didn't mention the fact that you could get a free room upgrade.
Crafty bugger, eh.

I had a delivery from Amazon, and the driver wouldn't accept my TIE card, and insisted on seeing my passport.

When Amazon deliver to me they never ask me for any ID.
They deliver from their Murcia depot and I get an email from Amazon to say that my package is out for delivery and I can track it right to my front door and they just hand the package to me and drive off.
I then get an email straight away from Amazon to say that my package has been delivered and also a message from Alexa.
But I must say that in all the years that I've lived here I've never ever been asked for my passport when having a package delivered, whether it's Correos, or anyone else, It's always been my NIE number which I know off by heart for that very reason.
