Just because 90 days have gone past since the start of the year does not mean every one here that has not got residency have to go back to their home country ,the rule is you can remain in Spain for 90 days in a rolling 180 so if you have only been in Spain for 30 days then you still have another 60 days before you need to leave

No sympathy at all whatsoever and good riddance .

"It’s not just the tax dodgers though that are affected, some ex-pats have been declined residency despite applying whilst others amazingly missed deadlines to apply, believing nothing would actually happen until cops started preparing deportation plans in anticipation of the deadline date."

This just about sums these idiots up, they all had plenty of warning but chose to ignore it. :irrate:

That's a good article. I know some who are winging it, been living there on EHIC for 16 years.. I think they survive on eBay sales. What is the reason why these people would not apply for residency, is it to do with being refused as they don't work etc, not paying tax, probably a nieve question!

I did find the story of someone voting to leave funny, now he can't stay in Spain. As said before I was in the middle really and straight after Brexit the UK decided to train more doctors in the UK and my son has a place at medical school so I don't complain about leaving. 6 months at anytime would have been better for me in the future but I will also have access to a tropical location via my Wife if required.
It would be good to know what taxes are like there for retirees, if you have a big house in the UK you rent it out, pension etc, are the taxes high there? I know council tax is low there, think in UK mine is just below £2700 a year, managed to get that reduced one band after a struggle.
I do wonder if the drop in UK property buyers and money spent being reduced will see Spain change their rules in the future. No problem if not but it will reduce the spend there.

You are totally right Fred. I wonder how many people would actually be in that position though, as Spain has only allowed since 22 December, Spanish residents, nationals etc from the UK entering the country.

Been In Calpe today and low and behold 6 cars parked in a row close to the Marina 4 of which had UK Registrations Never a Policeman when you want one :D :D

I was in my accountants on Weds and in the next office to me was a lady screaming at the lawyer who is based there that her Daughter who had lived in Spain since 2016 was going to be deported because she didn't have residency She said that her daughter worked but ' on the black ' so no contract health care etc etc and that she thought because she worked it wouldn't be a problem
The lawyer came out with the immortal line' Ignorance of the law is no excuse now get out of my office
It is not my problem '
Harsh but true

I'm afraid the article reads very similar to the cr*p that you read in the EWN...

"Another returning at Malaga airport today was Shaun Cromber who despite voting for Britain to leave the EU, didn’t believe it would end his Spanish lifestyle, he said: ” Yes I voted out, but I didn’t realise it would come to this, my application has been rejected and we are on our way home – the wife is in tears, she’s distraught if I’m honest and I’m not too happy at the prospect of returning back to the UK.
“I’ve loved living on the Costa del Sol and after 5 years can’t believe it has come to this, we applied but got rejected and so have no choice, although long term I think the Spanish will regret chucking us out of Spain”

Make of that what you want but to me its sounds like a load of old codswallop and should be taken with a very large pinch of sal. :D

I feel extremely sorry for many of these people who were living under the radar probably for financial reasons more than a desire to be illegal. Lots of people from the U.K. left home and made their way to Spain and managed to exist very well on pensions or odd jobs while renting their home. I’ve heard of people selling up their home and buying a much cheaper place in Spain and living on their excess money which after years is long gone. Where will they live when they return to Britain? My heart goes out to them. Even if they sell their Spanish home. They couldn’t hope to buy anything habitable with the small amount they’d get. God help them. They won’t manage as easily at home as the cost of living over here is astronomical compared with Spain. Please don’t be judge and jury. Remember, there but for the grace of God go I. Those people chose the easy option while you didn’t. Now they are in trouble and you’re not. Be thankful. My heart goes out to those foolish people that are human beings just like you and I.
