Such a carry on!

Finally going home and flying with Ryanair. Decided to check everything to make sure it was in order. I have paid for priority, 3 cabin bags weighing 10 kgs. Perfect! But maybe not. Checked measurements and discovered that my bags were slightly too big ( EasyJet sizes). Panic. ‘Phoned Ryanair and asked the cost of putting our bags in the hold. Didn’t matter that we paid for 10 kgS carryon luggage, given a price of £40 ( not even euro). Didn’t book them on. Next, decided to courier them home with SENDMYBAG costing €39. Went through the whole procedure, added credit card details , the lot. Arranged for bags to be collected tomorrow. Ok. I was pleased with that decision. All I needed to do was to print off the label but there was no confirmation. Panic again. Nothing, absolutely nothing. I sent an urgent message explaining my predicament.
Next, realised that Tuesday is a Holy Day and a public holiday.
What would happen if my luggage wasn’t picked up tomorrow ? Nervous breakdown at this point. A quick cup of coffee was called for. Ok. Let’s go and buy 2 suitably sized cabin bags. Brainwave, off we went to the Sunday SATs shop in the hope of getting something suitable. Now, at this point, I hadn’t explained to my husband that I was planning to bring everything home on the flight, he thought I just wanted 2 small bags to put essentials in as he still thought our luggage was being couriered. We got one archaic looking bag but the right size and he insisted upon buying another very sad looking specimen. I didn’t want it but he’d paid and left in a hump! I got into the car and he was most put out by my attitude. Finally, he calmed down and we stopped at the new Chinese shop and bought a grip for €10. Got home and everything fits in. Yippee. All my extra Christmas presents are safely packed.
I had excellent support from SENDMYBAG and they cancelled my booking. All sorted out but WHAT A CARRY ON, literally.

R I think you panicked unnecessarily about the size of the bag. There is no measuring bags with Ryanair. That went out the window a long time ago. Pity you didn't ask on here first.

Hi Bee, How I wish I had asked you. The two bags had to be carried/ no wheels. Nobody checked in Alicante. In Dublin, we had to walk miles and our arms were broken. But, we are home safely, thankfully. Such a difference in climates! Damp and overcast all the way home with drizzling rain for most of the journey. Thank goodness the heat was on in our house so it’s lovely and warm but my arms are aching so am now in bed and praying that I feel like a human being in the morning. Our stay in Torrevieja was wonderful and we enjoyed every minute of it. Now, it’s time for Christmas. All the houses in our area are dressed beautifully with 2 and 3 Christmas trees and trees illuminated as well. Up to the roof space tomorrow and the immaculate house I left will be turned upside down before it begins to look festive( that’s the part I hate). I will have all the time in the world to sort everything out during this damned quarantine. I am hoping that the NI executive will reduce the 14 days to 5 for Christmas but not holding my breath.
The Ryanair flight home was packed and once we had landed, everyone jumped up and surged forward and we at the front could hardly get out our bags out of the lockers. So unlike EasyJet who only permit you to leave your seat as each row from the front has exited. That aside, the staff at Dublin airport were friendly and helpful. Cheers everyone, hope you are all warm enough, my feet are still like blocks of ice !

Welcome back to the damp and cold R. You feel cold coming back home in the summer never mind the winter. I am a bit of a grinch myself as Xmas is not my favourite time of the year but I managed to get the lights and tree up by 1st Dec which is a record. Ryanair always seem to have the longest walk in every airport. I hope the arms and feet will be back to normal tomorrow. Yes the quarantine is a pain. It is too long. I thought they might have the swabs at the airport by now to reduce it.
