Escobars hidden fortune worthless

So his nephew found £14,000,000 of drug profits hidden in one of his houses that is worthless as they are old notes, and there is probably a lot more hidden elsewhere
I think that would have been dollars by the way , but yahoo has a history of poor detail in its articles, and are too lazy to convert
I am trying to work out if, besides escobar, if he was still alive, if their government lost out on this in anyway because of the monies being worthless
Obviously there is a tax loss of any items or goods that would have been purchased with it , but not being a financial expert, i cannot see if this would have impacted on the government negatively in any other way ?
I know its impacted on the lives of those buying the drugs , causing many deaths and addictions and with it crime
Its a shame it wasnt useable to help fight the drugs war

Saying that , would the nephew have said anything if it was still in date or had been in gold bullion ?

I would have expected that Escobars' properties would have been searched by the authorities after his death to check for this sort of thing, so surprised to see that it was found by his nephew after a 'vision'.
