Time Slots Being Considered For Torrevieja Beaches

According to the local Scandanavian media, Torrevieja Council are now considering introducing time slots. This was something that the Council had previously mentioned a few months ago that may be required during the peak of the summer season to control the number of people on the beaches.

The article states that the capacity on Playa del Cura is approximately 650 allowing for safety and distancing measures, but this is being exceeded daily.

What I was not aware of, according to the article beach access to the water is open to anyone, with or without a marked space on the beach which explains why the capacity being exceeded.

They need to look at Benidorm to see how it should be done. !!

Yes I read that in Informacion this morning. It seems the only way to go if August is going to have its high numbers of second -homer's visiting. From what I read in the papers Benidorm has not had a smooth ride. There are a lot of very angry people who don't have access to the on-line system and have to Q for their slot at the Town Hall. There are usually very few slots left according to the booking system. However when people arrive at the beach they see a lot of vacant slots where people have over-booked and not turned up. So now if the slot isn't occupied by a certain time it goes back into the system. I saw the usual chairs and umbrellas placed on prime front spots very early morning on La Mata beach and not a body in sight. I don't know what the solution to that one is.

Below is the website linked in the article which is suppose to allow the public to understand the current capacity on the beaches. Not all the beaches have a heatmap, but where they do they do not seem to be working/accurate from what I can see - possiblly picking up other heat sources ? Some areas at up to 75% capacity at this time in the morning ?

It's a very smart piece of technology if it works accurately. It is giving a reading of low occupancy on most of the beaches at the moment.

I agree it is a smart piece of technology, but I wonder whether this is actually sufficient on its own. It does not control social distancing like marked plots, so is reliant on physical intervention (by Police/beach personnel) to maintain that. Maybe a combination of this technology and marked plots would be a better solution.

Density of a heat source is not measuring the number of people, so not sure how Orihuela can accurately say whether beach capacity is/is not being exceeded.
