Back in the day ofc it all derived from USENET and before that Bulletin Boards. But now were back into the era of 2600 baud dial up, it took days to download a file, and you had to know about ZKERMIT and the 7 layer model, .Eden wrote: 13 Jul 2020 14:15 Hi All,
I used to use torrent sites but since the inception of streaming and ways to achieve it, I no longer have the need for torrents. I find most items be it live TV, TV series, and even VOD movies soon after release. Suppose it's down to the individual in the end. Good luck everyone.

Re: kickass torrents
I think the main reason why a lot of people like downloading torrents, me included, is that you can download them onto a hard drive to watch or listen to whenever it suits you.
I have built up and extensive library of films and music over the years, something you can't do with streaming .. I have a 2 mt dish and Sky for that.
I'm not sure what Encrochat and the FBI have got to do with a thread about a torrent site being taken down, but that's the nature of forums nowadays I'm afraid

Re: kickass torrents
My hard drive fits straight into my smart tv usb and lists the films in alphabetical order with a short description and year etc i have added
I have 3 full drives and am on my 4th now
Its a hobby for me and as you say james they are there when you want to watch at your convenience
I also have a 3D tv in the spare room , one of the last they made, and have downloaded a few films in 3D to watch using glasses
The effects arent too bad, but you cannot beat the effects with the avatar 3 D movie played via on a disc via a blue ray player

Re: kickass torrents
Yes I have a 3D TV and a Bluray surround 7.1 wireless surround system and yes, Avatar is brilliant.
3D is not best suited for home TV I think and is best viewed on a big screen in a cinema with the sound.
I like collecting old films and if I can't download them I bite the bullet and buy them from Amazon.
I used to download Bluray films and burn them onto disc, then I would download the dvd and case covers.
I used to buy the dvd cases in the Chino and print on the DVDs using a special bit of kit in my printer and then print out the covers and lo and behold.
I know it was illegal but I did a roaring trade with friends

Re: kickass torrents
I did the same james but did not bother with the printing
I have hundreds of old dvds here which i dont view anymore with using hard drives
Its like i used to do with music years ago, taping them onto cassette, then came discs, now its memory sticks or cards etc to plug into your car system and whatever else is new now
Its hard to keep up with technology

Re: kickass torrents
I stopped doing it jimny1 because I bought a new Sony 3D surround system and when I went to play disc that I had burnt, it played for about 30 mins then the sound went low and a warning from Cinavia appeared on the scree saying this was a pirated copy.
It seems to combat pirating and audio watermark is embedded in the soundtrack of all films.
By law all makes of DVD players must have the software installed on the player to detect any audio watermark .
At the time it was for all DVD players from 2017, but luckily I had a 2016 Sony 3D player that I was about to sell, and luckily it played the disc with no problem.
But now of course I just download onto an external hard drive and plug it in the DVD player.
The problem is that I've got shedloads of blank recordable DVD discs including Dual Layer and CD'S
I've also got a load of 50gb dual layer Bluray discs that I got for a good price from America.
