It does seem like an ideal excursion that you could take friends and family on, and something completely different from other types of activities you would think about doing whilst on holiday.

It's the first time I had even heard about it, and this seems to be a common problem for both Torrevieja and the Orihuela Costa.

There are plenty of things for people to do away from the beaches, but they are either not well publicised or there is no single online portal where you can find the information for all activities in one place.

I wouldn't say that JamesB, its the members of this forum that make it what it is contributing useful information from various sources.

Luckily for Torrevieja, Torrevieja.com is extremely good in keeping people informed. Orihuela Costa was not so lucky, so I built VisitOrihuelaCosta.com (work in progress) - which will eventually have a forum more aligned for tourists and visitors to the Orihuela coast, as opposed to residents.
