One slight problem , we are all wearing masks now, they will have to request each customer removes the mask first, which would not be ideal in the current situation
Also how would this work with the muslim community, especially if wearing a Hijab, unless it recognises just the eyes

In my many years in Spain I never seen any muslim women wearing the face covering.
And thats in highly populated muslim districts, Crevillente, Amoradi, San Fulgencio even in Sagunt.

They tend to wear them in the softer North European countries.

If you believe those figures, then Mercadona has a turnover of €25 Billion

Fair point jimbo, i also have never seen anyone wearing one over the years here, especially in mercadona
I was generalising and just pointing out how the technology is flawed when operated under certain circumstances, besides i doubt there are many thefts from hijab wearing women , its more likely to be drug related or typical career thieves
And i am sure other supermarkets and large stores would follow suit if it was seen to be working
