Yesterday the Mayor of Torrevieja released figures about the number of deaths and positive cases relating to residents of Torrevieja.

Today the Torrevieja Health Service have released figures for the area that they serve - San Fulgencio, Rojales, Formentera, Benijófar, Los Palacios, Rojales, Guardamar del Segura, La Mata, Los Montesinos, Torremendo, San Miguel de Salinas, Pilar de la Horadada, Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja.

Torrevieja Health Service have reported 34 deaths and 297 postive cases. We know as of yesterday morning that 19 deaths and 219 positive cases were Torrevieja residents - as provided by the Mayor of Torrevieja.

What is not known is whether any visitors to the area are included in the Torrevieja Health Service figures.

Latest figures released today show that the number of people who have lost their lives is now 37 with 337 positive cases.

Diario Informacion (DI) have provided a split by area based on information they have been able to obtain over the past week from the various areas.

Please note that the numbers in the table do not tally with the total figures released today. There is a variance of 1 death, that can probably be explained by the 1 death reported yesterday, and DI not being able to attribute to an area. The variance in positive cases is 54.

I did comment in my original post on this thread about not knowing whether any visitors were included in the figures and that is still not clear.

I have since found out that any foreign visitors, or Spaniards registered living elsewhere in the country who have died or tested positive in the Torrevieja Health Service area are classed as Torrevieja residents. ie. A foreign national or Spaniard on holiday in San Miguel who dies or tests positive for the virus will be included in the Torrevieja figures and not San Miguel. Therefore it is likely that the number of registered Torrevieja residents affected by the virus will be less than reported.

The latest figures released on Monday show that there have been 384 positive cases and sadly 49 deaths in the Torrevieja Health service

Thought it might be useful to add that the Orihuela Health Service has recorded 163 positive cases and 15 deaths in the same period.

For comparison the Torrevieja Health Service serves around 186,000 residents, with the Orihuela Health Service serving 168,000 residents.

On Tuesday there was no reported new cases of coronavirus within the Vega Baja region (Torrevieja and Orihuela).

Unfortunately since Tuesday the figures have increased substantially in the Vega Baja region with 52 new cases (12 - Wednesday / 20 - Thursday / 20 - today).

The Valencian Health Minister is attributing the rise in new cases to people not following social distancing, particularly children and young adults and as a result some in those categories are now amongst the new cases.

The total number of postive cases in the Torrevieja Health Service (THS) area is 435, with the Orihuela Health Service (OHS) area recording 184.

Sadly the deaths recorded by THS has risen to 50 and OHS to 18.

The reporting by the media of positive cases and deaths within the area has become more sporadic since the rate of increase in numbers has slowed, however the numbers do continue to rise.

Torrevieja Health Service - 478 postive cases/55 deaths

Orihuela Health Service - 200 positive cases/19 deaths
