Itv and coronavirus

I have just read in the Costa del sol euroweekly that there will be a 120,000 vehicle backlog for ITVs because of the virus
But it says the authorities will let people extend the expiry date for 3 months for catchup
It also questions the validity of your insurance if the ITV has expired
I found nothing in the Costa blanca version about this so am not sure if this legislation is for all of spain
My ITV is due in august so depending on any lockdown extensions and backlogs i could be affected

The Official State Gazette (BOE) published this morning confirmed that under Phase 1 ITV test centres can reopen, so that means for this area as from Monday you can get you car tested.

The wording in the EWN article referencing the 3 month extension to the expiry date of an ITV contradicts the wording on the official ITV website that EWN have linked to at the end of the article. The ITV website says that an expired ITV will be valid for a period of 30 calendar days after the State of Alarm has ended - the problem is since the date of that article on the ITV website in April, the State of Alarm has been extended further and ITV centres are allowed to reopen under Phase 1 - so will the 30 day extension still apply to the end date of the State of Alarm or from the start date of Phase 1 now the centres can open before the State of Alarm is lifted ?

I doubt if many people have even thought about the insurance implications of not having a valid ITV, with most people probably having not used their cars since the 'lockdown' was put in place.

So basically we are still in the dark about extended ITV expiry and validity of insurance during that period
Its always been difficult to get an ITV appointment anyway unless you book early enough, now it will be a nighmare with many vehicles itvs having already expired , and just turning up without an appointment could mean an extremely long wait . tent and sleeping bags might be advised

You can not just turn up for an ITV they have to be Appointment only
Also you will be insured as the existing ITV will be extended

Please do not take for gospel any reports in EWN as they have a habit of never checking what they print pretty much the same as all free press
The only true info is in the Government Bulletin

I know you used to be able to go without an appointment, i did once after i had a failure , but that was a retest
I think they had a special queue for that

It must be a new rule then , Freddo.
I took my car for its 1st I.T.V. last June.
I made no appointment.
Just turned up.
About 6 cars in front of me.
Got it tested - no problem.

I remember going at least once without an appointment as there were no places left online
I think i had to wait about 2 hours before i was called

Appointment only because of the Covid 19 problem I suppose it will go back to normal when it is over
I have always just turned up but this time I am making an appointment for a car I caretake
