A man is brought to court after being accused of murdering his wife after his wife was reported missing and has now been missing for a month. The man claims that his wife has left him, leaving nothing behind so that he would not be able to find her and that he is not guilty of murder.
As part of his defense, his lawyer asks everyone present to look to the back. “To prove that my client is not guilty, I have asked his wife to enter the doors in just a minute to prove that she has, in fact, not killed!” The entire jury, the judge, and everyone hearing the case looks to the door, only to see no one enter.
After a moment, the lawyer claims, “See! This only proves that you are uncertain that my client could have killed his wife. Otherwise, you would not have bothered looking!”
Almost immediately after, the jury all decides that the accused man is guilty. Why is that ?
