Renault wants to charge £7,500 to fix womans Zoe electric car in UK

Not being a great fan of EVs this type of thing doesnt surprise me
A garage wanted to charge a woman £7,500 to repair her Renault Zoe, which is only worth £5,600
She bought the 2017 car in 2020 off a friend , so it is just over 6 years old
The problem is a faulty charger but the garage wants to replace the whole unit
They are obviously not skilled enough to repair it, and that it a big problem with EVs , a lack of trained mechanics
I predicted this type of things would happen with older vehicles , i definitely would not buy one older than two or three years , if at all ,mainly because of the diminishing charge with age and these type of faults

Here's an extract from an article in the Irish Independent today which gives another side which is interesting.

"In 2016 the Current Consort and I bought a two-year-old electric car that had 25,000km on the clock. It cost us €16,000 after trading in a worthless diesel jalopy.

It is now 10 years old with 250,000km under its belt, and although the battery has lost a few cells and the range is down to about 120km, it has enough to get us to and from Limerick, Nenagh or Ennis.

However, we are about to give our beloved Nissan Leaf a heart transplant. Through a company in Kildare called ‘Range Therapy’ we have bought a replacement battery for €8,000. That will increase our range to 220km, which will get us comfortably wherever we want to go.

Even sweeter still, we are keeping the old battery and using it to provide all the electricity needs in our home. We can plug it in a few nights a week on night-rate electricity and what it stores will power the house all day, every day. That’s the circular economy at work"

I thought all was rosy when i started to read the article B, but i would have a heart attack if i needed to buy a replacement battery for £8,000 !!
Also it wasn't out of the goodness of their heart to allow the owner to keep the old battery, if they gave it back the company would need to collect it and dispose of it, and that is not cheap , a tesla battery costs $6,500 to recycle , possibly the same for the nissan leaf
So they are left holding the baby , or battery so to speak when it eventually needs disposing of and at what cost ?
