Ordering from Amazon UK to deliver to Spain , customs

I recently ordered a solar light from Amazon UK to deliver to my resident address in Spain, mainly because i used an Amazon UK voucher i had and it was on offer
But yesterday i got a message from the delivery company UPS that my item was stuck at customs and i needed to call them
To cut a long story, well a very long story short, i got in contact with Amazon on callback, eventually, for them to contact UPS to find out why
This was because of roaming charges with EE , it would have been too expensive to call UPS in the UK
After numerous calls i eventually was told that i needed to pay custom duty, the first time this has happened, i have ordered a few things from the UK without charge to Spain, the last being an electric toothbrush with accessories about three weeks ago , delivered with no problems
Anyway i asked how much the customs duty would be and they said no more than a few pounds , but Amazon would refund me back the cost i have to pay UPS on delivery
My question is, has anyone else had a similar experience ordering from the UK and had to pay customs duty and did Amazon refund you ?
Also i am not sure if i am expected to pay pounds or euros , obviously i only have euros, and if i pay in euros how will amazon uk be able to refund me in my UK account as it is in pounds sterling?

I have a UK and a Spanish account with Amazon and on the rare occasion that I use the UK one I've usually paid custom charges when ordering, but it's always been delivered by Amazon.es in Murcia.
But you will have pay UPS in euros if you have to pay on delivery. I cant see the driver accepting sterling.

I thought it would need to be paid in euros
Possibly amazon UK might reimburse me with another voucher as they cannot put euros in my UK account , and i doubt they have the facility to transfer into my amazon.es
To be honest i was quite surprised they have offered to give me the custom duty fee back, maybe it is a one off because i complained so much or because i quite regularly order from the UK
But it is worth noting the next time you have to pay yourself
Even if i have to pay a few euros fee it was worth ordering from the UK, i got the light nearly half price and then used a voucher i had also , i already have one on my front door and it is excellent hence ordering a second for the back
Heres the solar light if you need one, it stays on low light all night then full if the sensor is activated and really bright , i would post the link but when i have in the past my full account shows .

Just an update on my amazon delivery
UPS delivered my parcel yesterday and did not ask for any fee
So Amazon must have paid it for me, i didn't even have to pay and get a refund
So always worth contacting them if yours gets delayed at customs

No these are the large solar light sensors with 4 sets of folding solar lights per unit and a solar charger panel on the top fred
You fix them to a wall or gatepost depending
They have been 39.99 and 29.99 each at various times, now selling at £24.99 , a different brand, Zasun is now is also selling at £26.99 but i got mine for £14.99 including the postage of £6 from the UK to Spain as i had a voucher as credit and they were half price to start with
You don't normally get offers like this with amazon.es , only very rarely
I dont know if Zasun is as good as Claoner , i only know the last one i bought was claoner and it has worked brilliantly, but the description and pictures both look to be the same , probably the same manufacturer but just different names

Just noticed the Zasun only has 288 leds whereas the Claoner , mine, has 346 , so the other will not be as bright
