How do you keep your mutts teeth clean ?

We want to start cleaning our dogs teeth as the spray from the vets doesn't seem to work , same with the dental sticks
She is a yorkie poo and they are prone to bad teeth apparently
We tried bones but she is not interested in them
A trip to the vets for a clean is expensive and she has been twice in the past 12 months or so
Friends cleans their dogs teeth , a poodle every day and his teeth are pearly white
They use a dog toothpaste ,then i read a few articles saying coconut oil is also good
But one article says the latest research is not to use it
I am totally confused now, might just try the doggy toothpaste , as you cannot use human
Does anyone have some tips about this ?

I think you can also buy a powder to put on their food to remove plaque. I have to do this with one of my cats soon.

We cleaned our collies teeth two or three times a week. We couldn't use the dog toothpaste as too much sodium, and of course they swallow instead of spitting out! We were advised to use Eucryl smokers toothpowder with a damp normal toothbrush, and just shake off any excess so very little actually on the brush. Polly died at 15 with all her teeth still in place, and never once having to visit the vet for descaling or any dental problems. Worth a try.

Thanks G, i just got a delivery from amazon of a dog toothpaste recommended in the reviews , its mint flavoured
I will try this using my old electric toothbrush with a small round head
Its all down to her now if she will let us use it on her or not, but i expect it will take a bit of time for her to get used to it
