Ingredients
- 6 - 8 fresh or frozen toasting waffles (approximately 240g; defrosted, if needed), halved
- 25g butter
- 2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 25g plain flour
- 300ml milk
- 150g Gruyère, grated
- 4 slices thick-cut ham
- 1 tsp finely chopped chives
- Green salad, to serve
Method
1. Heat the air fryer to 180°C, or the oven to 200°C/Fan 180°C/Gas Mark 6. Arrange the waffles in a baking dish, overlapping as needed to fit.
2. Melt the butter and mustard together in a large saucepan over a low heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Turn the heat up to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Remove from the heat and stir 100g of the cheese through and plenty of seasoning.
3. Roughly tear the ham and nestle it between the waffles. Pour the cheese sauce over, then sprinkle on the remaining grated cheese. Cook in the air fryer for 5 - 7 minutes or oven for 10 - 15 minutes until golden and bubbling. Sprinkle on the chives and serve with a green salad.
