Mandatory Wearing Of Face Masks In Public In Spain ?

Growing speculation in the national media based on comments made yesterday by the Spanish Health Minister, Salvador Illa, that an announcement will be made this week regarding the wearing of face masks in public with the possibility that it will be mandatory.

As in other countries the public, ministers and medical professionals in Spain seem to be split on the idea.

I took it from what I read in Informacion that towns of populations of 10,000 and less would have no restricted hours but face masks would have to be worn in public. Looks like it will be facemasks for all so.

It was announced yesterday that masks will now be mandatory in closed spaces and on public roads where social distancing of 2 metres is not possible.

I believe that Consum announced that as from yesterday masks were to be worn in their supermarkets. Signs were apparently being displayed in their La Zenia branch last week advising accordingly.

I assume that all stores/supermarkets will now impose the same restriction as it is impractical to maintain a 2 metre distance when transiting aisles, unless they employ a one way layout of some kind ?

I was in mercadona yesterday and about half the people shopping were not wearing masks, and at least three of those were elderly

I went into Al Campo yesterday lunchtime and it was probably a 50/50 split as well between those wearing and not wearing masks.
