How is it a ' Day of Freedom' when we are all still under complete lockdown.

The only restrictions lifted are the ones imposed on non essential workers two weeks ago !!

If this member had been looking at the MSM in the UK this morning, then they probably would believe it is 'Day of Freedom' over here. The UK MSM don't seem to acknowledge that the restrictions that have just been lifted was basically a 'lockdown' within a 'lockdown', and we are still under 'lockdown'.

The media in the UK seem to being using the lifting of restrictions in Spain and Italy this week as a measure as to when the UK can expect to exit 'lockdown', without understanding fully what restrictions were in place, still remain or have been lifted.

The said member lives here in Spain and is a so called journalist.. so should be up to date with present crisis.

I cant see a ' day of freedom `for a couple of months at least.

I agree with you JamesB .
I don't think it will be anytime soon.
But can Spain avoid economic meltdown ?
I think a lot of business's will go to the wall .
Especially, bars and restaurants.

Yes Graham. I personally know of some small bars and restaurants that will never open again.
Which is a shame because you know yourself that it takes a lot of hard work and time to get a bar or restaurant up and running successfuly, and to see it all come to an end is heartbreaking.

Please explain why you think some bars and restaurants will definitely not reopen again. I am consciously aware that people aren’t making any money while the country is in lockdown but once people start going out and about again you would expect that before long they would be doing what they had always done and stop for a drink or something to eat. We are creatures of habit. I honestly hope that people’s livelihoods remain secure. Once this nightmare ends we must all do our best to support as many people as we can. I will be gutted if my usual favourites close down. We always try and to support as many businesses as we can which is bad for the waistline!

Oh to be able to have a vino in the chicken shack square. Very recently three of the bar's changed hands one in particular appeared to be doing quite well. What a shame to have this terrible situation for them and everyone else.
I just can't see some of them opening again unless they have money behind them.
Fingers cross for them.

A lot of small bars here have to be competitive and to do that they have to charge competitive prices. That means cutting profits to a minimum.
That's fine as long as you are making a profit because staff have to paid as do ulilities and rent in many cases.
Many can withstand closing for a week or two with no income but this sustained closure at the moment of potentionally six to eight weeks will permanently damage them.
Some of the bigger bars and restaurants may fair better because of different financial arrangements.

Has the Spanish government not provided financial aid for small businesses? I hope they have or there will be a lot of suicides like the last depression.
