In the EU, renewables rose to a record 44% share of EU power and, for the first time, wind produced more electricity - 18% - than gas - 17% - in 2023.

The article stated the Russian invasion of Ukraine has seen a rapid expansion of renewables.

I suspect Spain has a big impact on these figures. Spain is very lucky to have huge solar-power potential and vast tracts of 'empty' land that can be used for wind turbines. I don't think NIMBYism is a big issue in Spain.

I keep hearing politicians here in the UK banging on about how wind/solar will make our bills cheaper.
Now that there is a large part of out energy from renewables, I don't see it getting cheaper?
With these latest spanish figures bills should be dropping in spain - but are they?

Maybe not going up as quickly as they would otherwise.

Still, perhaps it is better for the planet?

I have not looked at the ins and outs but these companies probably have their fees tied to global rates but you would think the wind and sun would be cheaper wouldn't you. Maybe it might reduce the price of petrol and diesel if there is less demand in the coming years.
