Hidden away in the depths of the news, an all-electric bus bursts into an inferno in London. Emergency services categorised it as a critical incident, and yet there's hardly any mention on the BBC TV news. Some people might call it a conspiracy!

Well this news from Hertz is certainly not good for the EVs. A cheap second-hand electric vehicle anyone? Bee

Hertz Global Holdings plans to sell a third of its US electric vehicle fleet and reinvest in petrol cars due to weak demand and high repair costs for its battery-powered options.
The sales of 20,000 EVs began last month and will continue over the course of 2024, the rental giant said yesterday in a regulatory filing. Hertz will record a non-cash charge in its fourth-quarter results of about $245m (€223.7m) related to incremental net depreciation expense.
The dramatic about-face, after Hertz announced plans in 2021 to buy 100,000 Tesla vehicles, underscores the waning demand for all-electric cars in America. EV sales growth slowed sharply over the course of 2023, rising just 1.3pc in the final quarter as consumers were put off by high costs and interest rates.
Stephen Scherr, CEO of Heinz, said: “The elevated costs associated with EVs persisted. Efforts to wrestle it down proved to be more challenging.”

I have an electric car, it's great, mileage is 250 per charge in the cold.

It sounds like you have a fairly powerful battery. The more powerful the battery the higher the price. I would suffer from range anxiety as public charging points are very few if not at all in rural Ireland.

82kw, they state 313 miles but as it is cold at the moment the range is less, 250. I have a charging point at.home, 7p per KW so around £6 for 250 miles. I can heat the car up from my phone so quite.hamdy in saving time, heated seats with 3 different settings..large screen to show sat NAV and Spotify from my phone. I have not had it long but i am enjoying it so far. If I got the boat to northern Spain and drove to torre, I would only need to stop twice to recharge assuming I left the UK with a full charge.

I would be the same as you Bee. The amount of service stations we have seen, where the charging points are not working too would worry me so much.
