The End For Artificial Grass ..........

........... or at the very least to be frowned upon if you have any ?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... -face.html

Maybe just a coincidence, looked at a property for sale in the Murcia region online a few months back. Listed with numerous agents, one of the agent's had decided to airbrush the artificial grass that surrounded the swimming pool out of their pictures.

One of the worst inventions ever.
I wish it was banned.
Environmentally unfriendly to all wildlife.
No concern for, birds, insects or the food chain.

sounds not to dissimilar to people concreting over their front gardens for off-street parking with the exception of covering it in green plastic grass.

The situation is completely different in Spain to the UK
Grass grows very easily in the UK as there is an abundance of rain and seasons to encourage growth
In Spain we don't have the rain ,just constant heat where the grass will just burn and die and you can waste a lot of water trying to keep it hydrated
I had constant weeds growing up through my stone chipped garden at the front of the house and i was told some were aggressive and you could not kill them , which i found after using lots of different weed killers which are not good for the environment
So i had the front concreted and then covered with artificial grass
Problem solved and it looks really nice compared to the mess i had before

Totally different in my opinion. I have grass in UK and a driveway for our cars. With those who do not have a driveway want their car to be secure so concrete over the front (there are other options even then that do not require the whole front concreting).
Plastic grass in the UK is not done for a purpose like that but done in general for lazy people who care not for the environment or wildlife.
I agree that Spain is different, but when we lived there we had a 1 acre plot, the majority of which was full of trees, palms, shrubs, bushes and ground cover and local grass. It was always green in autumn, winter and the start of spring ( mainly because of the early morning dew, and the little rain we had). Summer it disappeared and always came back in Autumn.
The only shale we had was the driveway to the house.
It required work (gardening was my wifes hobby), but we had a lovely garden, easy on the eye, full of colour as opposed to an acre of concrete and a shale quarry that most others had.
Lots of natural shade with the Acacia trees..

Rant over.

What we found in many London boroughs was that due to parking restrictions in many residential areas many many people concreted over their gardens to make off road parking spaces which meant that natural soakaways disappeared which meant extensive flooding in many areas and many people living in close proximity to train stations would rent out their driveways to commuters.
The best thing about this forum is that it keeps frogface and his brood happy, cos they've nowt else to talk about.

The council put astroturf on our roundabout and it looks great, so much better than the weeds that used to be there.

Astroturf is ideal in some circumstances and questionable in others.
. .
And not many people living here in Spain have an acre of land ;)

Comes back to council priorities.

My point about the plot size was if an old git like me and his wife can manage it then surely others can manage a few square metres.
