Coronavirus - Chinese Businesses In Alicante Province Suffering

Just read an article in the local English press that Chinese businesses in the Alicante province are claiming they are suffering up to 30% loss in turnover due to customers avoiding their retail and restaurants because of the virus. They say customer numbers are "plummeting".

30% seems an extremely high percentage to me, and I have seen no change when I have been in the Chinese businesses in the last week.

Two Chinese restaurants that I frequent, have been closed for January, as the owners ( family ) went back to China for their annual holiday .
Coincidentally, both are due to open this week.
I think , I will give them a wide berth , for the foreseeable future.
Presumably, they have travelled back on a jumbo jet, with approx 350 other people on it .
That increases the odds , on somebody having the virus .
And on a plane , having recycled air ...it would increase the virus moving around .
I hope I'm not being paranoid .

I don't think your being paranoid, its just that there still seems to be so much unknown about the virus.

I'm not sure whether the Chinese Government are testing people departing from all airports in China or just those in the infected regions, but even then thats not fullproof as has been seen on one of the repatriation flights to the UK. Someone passed the airport test but developed the symptoms on route to the UK and tested positive once placed insolation. You can also be a carrier of the disease but not develop the symptons, yet still infect others.

Wandering around in surgical masks is also a waste time, but perhaps it gives people some sense of security.

China only alerted the WHO to the virus on December 31, so this virus could have been around for sometime before that. Given that the symptons are similar to flu and this is the flu season I guess many people could have been suffering from coronavirus without their knowledge and passed it off as flu and made a full recovery. Those dying from the coronavirus apparently have underlying health issues and their immune system is more vulnerable which leads to complications and death.
