Some pictures here of the work which has started on the Port in Torrevieja. The first phase is the new Fish Market/Auction Area or Lonja.

Seems to be an awful lot of money for very little return for a fishing ' fleet' of 3 boats
Millions have been spent on this area in the past 15 years or so with very little tangible return it still looks the same ,whilst the much promised costal path from Torrevieja to Punta Prima which would benefit so many is about as likely as me winning the lotto

They have been promising that for over 20 years, and estate agents have been using that promise in their sales blurb knowing full well that it will never come to fruition.
I`ve heard that the big properties along the front have been built too close to sea making a costal path / promenade impossible to build. That`s what I`ve heard.

The real frustration as we both know is that ' the path' is already there as its a well worn path it just needs smartening up and made safer and easier to walk on its not as if they have to start a fresh
A wooden walk way a la la Mata and some form of lighting would be an asset to the area
Its just so frustrating for all concerned
But as you say cannot see it happening in our life time ........and I plan to live another 40 years

They could do with fixing up the massive car damaging pot holes on the road to Villamartin and back, massive.

Is that in the area where Bar Isla is?

Unfortunately, that is down to Orihuela Costa council, they won´t spend a bean unless it for the benefit of Orihuela City.

Shocked how quickly this work has started. Only seems like a couple of months ago that the plans were made public, and since then it has been approved and work now commenced. Shows that the Council can move quickly, if it wants to.

My legal team has advised me to say "No comment"

It is nice to see projects like this move forward at pace and it should be something that will attract more visitors to Torrevieja, but the Council should not forget their commitments to existing attractions which fall under their jurisdiction and require their immediate attention - I am thinking particularly of the Museum of Salt and Sea that has been criticised by the Generalitat's Ministry of Culture within the past week - although as the museum will be relocated to the port as part of this new development so I doubt whether the Council will be to keen to expend effort and money on its current location.

With one new school under construction and two more planned for Torrevieja, commercial construction seems to be demoninating the area. Plus there will be the new bus station if the Council can find a contractor willing to take it on.
