Just planning my escape in a few years but I might come back to UK 10 to 15 years after that if I am still around, maybe I will change my mind by then. My Wife is in Brasil at the moment, you can buy a 3 bed bungalow there for under £10k, inland in a quiet small town. Their exchange rate is half what it used to be. I expect I could buy a nice place by the sea for £50k in Brasil. Winter there, in the sun, summer in Spain. That is as bad as it should get for me. I will check this out but become a resident in Spain, sell my other place in Spain tax free at 65 but move there by 62 in the future. Inflation and fuel prices will make it difficult for many in the UK soon, wages are not keeping up with costs.

Spanish inflation is way above that of the UK. This is a world wide problem.

But Spain hasn't had Tories in power for 12 years,my money goes a lot further here than in the UK,my outgoings here don't even equate to what i paid in council tax alone in the UK.Although i must admit Spain hasn't had all of the benefits of Brexit that the UK has.

My gas and electric deal came to an end a couple of days ago. The new rate they reckon will cost me £154 a month, I know electric is not cheap in Spain but bills are draining money, think my council tax is £2600 a year in UK. Add water bills, cars etc etc, wow, expensive to live here. As I don't have a mortgage in Spain, already have a car, I bet two of us could live much more cheaply there. Rent my house out here, live there. I can't do that yet but it feels more appealing as every day goes by.

I had one year of living in Spain when I was 39, I was too young then but I am heading towards check out time. Not that long ago really, I didn't think I would leave the UK but maybe it is my age or just the daily grind that is changing my mind. It will be a few years yet but I will get the pellet burners installed at some stage and get over there.

This is an amazing country, and if you are able to drive you'll never tire of exploring it,Segovia,Salamanca,Avila,Santiago de compostella,Toledo all well worth exploring, the big cities and towns to the south also, we drove recently to Lisbon in portugal, stopping overnight in Cadiz, all amazing places, the parades and fiestas almost continuous once this pandemic is over, check out on youtube the easter parades at Lorca with the chariots, the moors and christians at orihuela, the night of fire at Elche ,the Fallas at Valencia, plus of course the weather and the long hot nights and the reasonable costs of having a great time.Just don't fall into the trap of sitting in front of a computer terminal in your string vest and stained y fronts pretending to be a man like some expats do.

Despite paying nearly €500/mth in rent (don't want to own property) we still manage comfortably on two basic UK state pensions - total around €1400/mth.

I do have a private pension but I only draw down on for exceptional expenditure such as holidays and replacing my car which I did last year.

The way things are going in the UK inflation wise the breaking of the pensions triple lock because of the unreal 8% in average wages may turn into a blessing!
