Is it time up for Xmas cards?

Is it time up for Xmas cards?
I am siiting here as dawn is breaking, gazing at the numerous Chrismas cards, on the mantlepiece, the sideboard, arcing gracefully on strings on the walls.
Pretty, sparkly, shimmering gaudiness, some metallic, some with stuck on Glitter...some even with music inside...
But in a few days, all are redundant...their purpose is served, but all that cost, and the postage, and the wasted paper and stuff....
This must now be an environmental issue, surely the resources used in the manufacture and disposal could be put to better ,greener use?
We now can have electronic greeting cards, we can telephone messsges and skype our loved ones with our seasonal goodwill...
Is it time to ditch the Xmas cards...and birthday one too??

Yes - this year especially as I'm away for Xmas... I've had to use the electronic Christmas cards ( courtesy of J.L. ).
It's the way forward now .
£17 a year subscription charge , and you can send as many Xmas , Birthday, New Year e.cards , as you like .

How impersonal..
We still send Christmas and Birthday cards every year and people love sending us hand written cards from all around the world as well.

...To tell the truth...I don't even look at them, but my wife does enjoy the whole experience.
I'd rather donate to a homeless charity or food bank than buy and send cards...but I don't do that either..
Miserable git?....I couldn't possibly comment....

I think it's the future, JamesB.
Just as e.mails have more or less replaced , personal, hand written letters .

Re: Is it time up for Xmas cards?
Sorry but for me you cannot beat a hand written personal card especially when you live 1000 s of miles away with very little chance of seeing that individual .
All electronic cards sent to me were deleated without me opening them. It might be modern but in my eyes its just lazy and impersonal
Just an opinion

Re: Is it time up for Xmas cards?
So nowadays there are three ways of sending a card of any sort..
An e -card which is in a form of an email and very impersonal and yes lazy.
Using a website like Moonpig who will send the card for you after pickng one, but of course you can`t write in it because it`s all done on online.
Still a bit impersonal but saves you the hassle posting them yourself.
Or the way we prefer and that`s going to a card shop, picking the appropriate card, writing the approprate words inside and then posting them.
The recipient knows this and feels that the card is that bit extra special and wo betide anyone who doesn`t recipricate in the same manner.
