Spanish Resident British Nationals Travelling To England - Quarantine Remains

#1

Post: # 19753Post Carl »

Last week it was announced that from 19 July British Nationals returning from Spain to England would not need to quarantine if they had been fully vaccinated. This exemption from quarantine is for UK residents who have been fully vaccinated by the NHS only. British Nationals living in Spain travelling to England will still be required to quarantine for the required period as stipulated by the UK Government.

Surely this is because the EU have not got a vaccine certificate yet just a plain bit of paper that anyone can forge

The certificate that we have downloaded shows we have had the same pfizer vaccine that those in the UK have had. It has a QR code on it that all of Europe recognise.

Seems the UK can't manage to recognise it but the rest of Europe can.

Maybe the UK can download the free software to read it from some kiddy in Europe?

I thought the EU and the UK were both going to use the same core software to produce the certificates, but it seems perhaps that is no longer the case.

The EU as a bloc have not accepted the NHS Covid Pass (vaccine certificate), but some EU countries such as Spain have acted independently to accept it.

And the EU is still working to ensure its Digital Covid Certificate is compatible with those issued in other non-EU countries.

I am sure it is easy Fred, the problem is probably bureaucracy or technically over engineering a solution for something simple.

Something that crossed my mind this morning was whether the EU's Digital Identity Wallet plans announced in early June may have complicated the situation, at a time when the focus should have been on the certificate.
