Post Office disgrace .
Okay, so convictions overturned...worst miscarriage of British justice ever.. but that is not enough !!
Compensation is next...unfortunately the taxpayer will have to stump up.
Consequences must now be pursued, legal and financial on the executives, managers, and legal professionals involved.
And there must be an independent and rapid public enquiry, culprits quickly identified and punished severely.
People have died because of this. !!

Re: Post Office disgrace .
Surely the culprit was the Japanese manufacturer of the faulty machines. Can’t see why the tax payer will have to pay in this instance.
No matter what happens now, nothing can compensate these very unfortunate people.
This was a cruel travesty.

Yes but the Post Office must take their share of the blame, particularly the heads .. and they must roll. !!
Re: Post Office disgrace .
From the Daily Mail yesterday:
"The Post Office had spent £32million to deny any fault in Horizon before capitulating.
It has since paid a £58million settlement to 557 postmasters following an acrimonious High Court battle.
In total, as many as 736 sub-postmasters who were convicted could claim damages, further pushing the compensation bill into the hundreds of millions of pounds.
Close to 2,500 postmasters have applied for compensation from a new Post Office scheme, which is expected to pay out £153million of compensation."
Eye-watering amounts of money involved.

Eye watering indeed. !!
But what a shocking story. Those executives knew there was a problem with the Horizon system, yet they went home and slept at night while these people’s lives collapsed around them. How despicable!!! The executives should be rounded up and charged for perverting the course of justice. If found guilty they should be imprisoned and their assets stripped to make a contribution to the compensation bill. They should be subjected to the same hardship as those that they knowingly hung out to dry.

Re: Post Office disgrace .
I’m confused. How do you know the executives were aware of the faulty system? I hadn’t heard that piece of information. If it is the truth, I would agree with you. If they knew the truth, they will know Karma for sure. In life, what goes around comes around. If it doesn’t, it should.

From the defence back in 2017:
The Post Office failed to act upon warnings about Horizon, or adequately investigate once sub-postmasters fell under suspicion

And I assure you I that I'm just Brandyboy on here, and The Eagle somewhere else, so no I haven't slipped up. Comments on here are debated elsewhere, so I've turned the tables a bit, just some fun, and I knew someone on here would spot it and comment on it .. It was just a question of who.
So we'll leave it at that shall we and carry on debating the thread on what is a serious issue after all.
