700 masks seized at the craft market (also known as the hippy market) on the Paseo de La Liberta last Thursday.

I am just guessing that selling these types of masks is due to demand for vanity over health, and wanting a mask that provides a fashion statement as opposed to one that actually offers protection.

I would be very surprised if this is the last seizure of this type. Looking at the masks in the photo within the article, these same type of masks are being sold in Chinese shops for around €7 and are also being sold on the t-shirt stalls over Zenia Boulevard.

I think you've hit the nail on the head Carl.
I detest wearing the mask, and wear it no more than legally required .
Mercadona sell them - 10 for 6 euros .
That's good enough for me .
By the way - I've sent you a P.M.

I buy the 3 ply blue on the outside ones on amazon for under £10 for 100.

We won't know if it matters whether they are knock offs or originals until the health department gives their opinion. As far as I can see it doesn't matter what the mask is made from as long as your nose mouth and chin are covered. I agree the masks are hell in the heat.
