Re: Great books I have read
When a teenager, I was determined to read the New English Bible...cover to cover..
can't see many kids today doing it...did me no harm, though, but didn't turn me into a churchgoer!

Kindle for me for convenience, although I must admit I do enjoy the "feel" of a proper book occasionally.JamesB wrote: 12 Dec 2019 09:25 Do any of you guys use a Kindle.
I know you can`t beat the feel and smell of good book ( much like a good woman) but a Kindle is much more convenient and you can get so many good books for so little money on Amazon and sometimes free as well.

Be warned, the BBC have given it "the Treatment" for this Christmas...Did Dickens use the word "fuck" in his book, and have somebody urinating on Scrooges gravestone?JamesB wrote: 10 Dec 2019 19:48 I love any book by Charles Dickens and have read them all, but my most favourite has to be A Christmas Carol.

Well I shan`t be watching it. !!
I hope the Beeb never apply their' artistic licence' to Its A Wonderful Life because I firmly believe what Clarence said " Every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings"

Re: Great books I have read
...just finished "The Forgottn Highlander"
The author A Urquart died 3 years ago aged 97. He survived the capture of Singapore, worked on the Death Railway, helped build the Bridge over the river Kwai, was torpedoed whilst on a slave ship to Japan, worked there as a factory slave, and witnessed the Atom bomb dropped on Nagasaki!
Suffered the effects all his life, got no apology from the Japanese, and was awarded £10000 compensation in 2000, paid not by Japan, but by the British government!!
An unbelievable story of suffering and endurance!
Oh, and the film was nothing like the truth, either.
