Definitely not Brexit.
Snow in Morocco
Climate change A long hot autumn but freezing conditions hit thereafter. Tomatoes, peppers etc., ruined. New crops in the next few weeks.
Why on earth would Brexit be to blame? That was all done and dusted in mainland U.K. a long time ago.
The Protocol is still to be sorted out here in (NI) but when I was shopping yesterday, there was plenty of fruit and vegetables available.
As Donald would have said “ fake news”!!

By the way, fruit and vegetables are far cheaper here than in Spain apart from large oranges.

Therin lies the problem. Perhaps thats why brexit won the vote. Failure to read or hear everything that is said.

There are a number of reasons coming together to create the shortage being put forward. The govt only using one - the cold weather in Spain. That was dismissed by others as the only reason including the farmers union and the former head of Sainsburys who also said that b...... has also had an effect.
You report it as being stated, that's denied, you provide links to where it has been stated and it still not accepted.

The news reports also include, high energy costs have resulted in many growers switching off.
Supply issues is another.
Uk farmers have complained about lack of workers (they left because of ........)
Paperwork required has increased and some haven't bothered because it's easier to sell without it to there because of ........

Many suppliers exist in Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Germany. No cold snap there causing it.

And there has been no such effect in EU countries.
So why has the cold weather only had an effect on UK supplies and not others.

Who to believe is so difficult.
On the one hand we have a govt who has lied continually about almost everything who just blame Spanish weather.
On the other we see other countries not suffering the same shortages, despite that weather, and farmers and providers saying there are other effects adding to it.

Probably best to leave it as only UK suppliers affected by the bad weather.

Has anybody else on here seen the size in Southern Spain of the greenhouses. Have a look on Google maps. It may surprise you.

Not bothered, sure we will live for the next four weeks! Plenty of tomatoes in the Belfry hotel when I woke up for breakfast this morning, lol.

The 1950s lamp & chair dont go with the upvc double glazing though.

Cucumbers are in short supply, cold weather in Spain.

Yet most cucumbers into UK come from Northern Europe when added together and Spain is not the largest anyway.

Hard to explain the shortage on Just Spanish weather.

One of the Dutch exporters of tomatoes to the UK commented on twitter yesterday that they have a surplus of tomatoes in the Netherlands at the moment but are unable to get drivers to take them to the UK because of the overall time it takes to make a round trip delivery. Transport companies and their drivers lose money while their trucks are stuck in a queue on the M20. He mentioned 77 hours for a round trip Netherlands/UK which sounds ridiculous considering the relatively short distance involved. Dutch suppliers then try to pass on the cost of transport delays to UK supermarkets who cancel their orders in the hope of finding a cheaper alternative to Dutch suppliers, only this time they have come unstuck. Thus we have a UK-wide tomato shortage at the moment.

Several factors have contributed to the UK's current fresh vegetable shortage and brexit is but one of them. When our government negotiated a new Morocco/UK trade deal to replace the EU/Morocco arrangement, it boasted that a new ferry service would be established between Tangier and Poole so British lorries could avoid the delays and paperwork involved when travelling through Spain and France. The UK registered company retained to establish this ferry service has since been dissolved and no new ferry service has materialised. Sounds like a repeat of the "Seabourne" ferry contract.

It is a Dyson but I just slept in the room, got up, had breakfast and checked out by 8am. I didn't touch it, had a radiator in the room. Probably only awake inside the room for 1 hour. That hotel is so big, too big really, I know it is a resort but the signage is not good either for directions.

I think the lamp was made of light oak so felt modern and no doubt it was not 1950's lol. That lamp is probably harder to knock over than most, they probably have to think of those things.

Anyway, back to tomatoes
