I take your point stiwie, but I believe self identification is open to serious and dangerous abuse, has as recently been shown in a few cases, and at what age should it be discussed.
I do not believe, as an example, a 5 year old has the knowledge to be questioned let alone decide.
Upbringing must also have an effect and it is so different now as to who is a mother or father figure (that probably gives my age away).

It's ok fine to find this topic amusing, until perhaps you have a family member struggling with this.

A good friend of mines Grandchild struggled with their identity, identifieing as non binary at the age of 12.

5 years on they now see themselves as male and is starting the process of gender reassignment. Along the way there has been huge emotional turmoil including at least one attempt to take their own life. The effect on the immediate Family have been significant as they came to terms with it, my friend being in his 70s has really struggled with it.

Having seen the turmoil this situation has bought about has led me to have a real look at myself and my beliefs, and I how think and feel. Everyone has the right to be happy in their own skin whatever they believe in - believe me that's a huge step change for a white hetrosexual 70+ person.

I'm not sure that I agree 100% with this but I do have some sympathy.

I think that there are genuine cases and people have had reassignment for a long time, but of the recent epidemic, how much of it is driven by media chattering and the woke left?

Worst of all, Sweaty Sturgeon has tried to force through rules which allow men, including convicted rapists to identify as a women after just 3 months with no diagnosis. This is shocking and harming both women's rights and those of the genuine trans community and thank God Sunak did something right and has put a stop to it.

(We all know it was unworkable and just another attempt to bring Ĥolyrood into conflict with Westminster, which is exactly what she wants)

I tend to think what will eventually happen is that there will have to be a special prison for those other than male or female.

There won't be many due to the cost and few inhabitants so sadly many will be in a prison many miles from friends and family.

As so often happens, many will suffer because of a few people making a point.
