They say it was a cocktail cherry , but the drugs might have contributed to it

What happened to Steve Peregrin Took?
Took died on Oct. 27, 1980, from asphyxiation after choking on a cocktail cherry. Though he and his girlfriend had ingested both morphine and hallucinogens the night before, authorities ruled that neither contributed to his death.

I was wrong also, wasn't aware of thev1968 one.

It was Hendrix I went to see as most others I had already seen and ss I remember because everyting ran over when Hendix came on well into the night many were asleep and missed it (but that might be a poor memory on my part).
And if course then it was Band of Gypsies.

I was thinking back to my younger days spurred on by my thread , and how i used to frequent quaintways nightclub in chester where i lived
It wasnt very big and i remember going to see santana and status quo there in their early days
I just googled it and found this through wikipedia , more famous groups played there than i realised and i never knew
NB I just found more links to its history, and yet more famous acts and bands :o

Quaintways was a nightclub and music venue located at Northgate Street in Chester, England. It was owned and operated by entrepreneur Gordon Vickers. During its heyday of the 1960s and 1970s it hosted bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Thin Lizzy, Status Quo, Dire Straits, Uriah Heep, Judas Priest and the Sex Pistols.

Stirred up my youth memories as well Jimmy.

I saw many at Birmingham town hall in 69 andv70. Also in 1969 went to a room above a pub called Henrys Blueshouse. Saw a new brummie group trying to make a name touring local pubs called Black Sabbath.

Also in 1969 got a job at what was then the largest pub in Europe, the Swan at yardley in Birmingham, collecting glasses when groups were on. Upstairs room used to hold about 500.
Got the job the day before Fleetwood Mac appeared (the original line up). As a youngster I was well happy when Mick gave me his drumsticks, I wish I had kept them instead if giving them to a girl i was dating.

I know each generation thinks the same jimbo "those were the days", but those REALLY were the days, expecially concerning bands and music
Not like current groups that cant sing or play an instrument without special effects etc to cover the mistakes
Take rapping, i wouldnt call that music, its just synchronised street poetry , ok, clever stuff in its own right , but a different genre
Wheres the blood sweat and tears you get from a rock performance , they gave their heart and soul to the fans
You cant replicate those times, especially memories like you have been good enough to share
By the way , i just fished out my original membership card for quaintways, i cannot believe i still have it
Its got a few beer stains on it , might be worth something in another 50 years
