Re: Spain’s Catholic Church
This is one reason amongst many why i steer clear of religion
Besides it being tainted or more painted with sexual abuse , how many countries are at war over it ?
How many people have died in the name of religion ?
Nothing in the bible has been proven to be true although we are all led and taught to believe they are
Technology has proven otherwise with the likes of the turin shroud , carbon dated to show it is from the 1400's
How many other facts are not true ?
I know people need something to believe in , to take solace in times of troubles , that is fine if they find comfort in it, but they need to be careful which denomination they choose to follow , there are so many scandals known and unknown
It seems the nonces are using religion as a path to satisfy their own perverted lusts

Re: Spain’s Catholic Church
The Roman Catholic Church has a lot to answer for. You need to read what Christpher Hitchens thinks of them and religion in general. I was baptised a Roman Catholic but now I'm a devout Atheist.
And yes, people need to believe in something and I understand that, having family including my son, who serve in the church. But I'm not one of them, and although I'm willing to accept their beliefs, they are not willing to accept mine. How very Christian.
Christpher Hitchens book on Mother Theresa is devastating and a real eye opener.

I'm a relapsed Roman Catholic. It's shameful how these abuses have been covered up over the years. It overshadows the people who do do good work for their communities. As for the church in Spain, just look how they cozied up with the Franco regime.
Re: Spain’s Catholic Church
Not forgetting the power they wielded over the Irish Government and the draconian affect that they had over millions if Irish families and were the root cause of much suffering, mainly amongst the poor.
Re: Spain’s Catholic Church
Yes Brandyboy the Irish Catholic Church was rotten to the core. A nest of paedophiles. Nobody will ever trust them again. The trail of broken lives they have left in their wake. You can't blame religion . The blame lies with those who use religion as a front for their terrible deeds.

The Magdalene Laundries are just another example of the shameful history of the Irish Catholic Church, only this time in full collusion with the Irish Government.
My family on my fathers side are from County Waterford and I've been studying The Magdalene Laundries for many years and the terrible conditons of the poor women and children who were encarcerated there and how the word of a priest could seperate mother and child ..forever. I can only say that some members of my family were also affected.
The many books are difficult to read, but it took a long time for the Taoiseach at the time to finally admit .. grudgedly.. that they had played a big part in the whole disgraceful affair. Many survivors got compensation, but many didn't and some died waiting. Of course it's a chapter in Irish history that many would like to sweep under the carpet.
I have followed the lives of many of the survivors and their kin and some are Facebook friends, and have watched the many heartrending programs about their struggle for justice.
I'm also a supporter of JFMR Justice for Magdalenes Research. https://jfmresearch.com/testimony/

Re: Spain’s Catholic Church
There are so many mother and baby homes which were dotted around the country run by religious orders which were financed by the state. The Tuam babies scandal, which the historian, Catherine Corless, has brought to light at the Mother and Baby Home in Tuam in Co Galway where the remains of nearly 800 babies were buried in an old disused septic tank. All the remains are being exhumed and identified where at all possible. Then the awful correction centres/schools/orphanages run by religious orders where children were sent if they were unfortunate enough to be either orphans or a breakdown in the family. Young children could be sent to these places if they mitched school or stole an apple even. They were also used as child labour by local farmers or adopted by families who used them as cheap labour. How could a religion be so deviant, inhumane, uncharitable to the most vulnerable children in our society. Is it any wonder the catholic church has now lost generations of followers in Ireland.

Re: Spain’s Catholic Church
Yes how could they. 796 poor wee souls from about 35 foetal weeks to two or three years. Sisters of Mercy.
It does make extremely harrowing reading and watching the poor mothers on the screen is equally upsetting.
The same religion who told thousands of devout Catholic parents that their stillborn child has gone to hell because it wasn't baptised and the original sin was still on it's soul. The anguish must have been heartbreaking.
