In 1975 Margaret Thatcher said:

"To take a gamble on leaving Europe would be reckless in the extreme and could lead to us finding ourselves standing at the end of world food queues. It's a gamble where we have little to win, but a lot to lose."

At the time people from both sides voted for what they thought was best for the UK and with what knowledge they had at hand.

Said people deserve credit for thinking about their country and not one of them deserves the shit and ignorant abuse from some people for simply voting thus.

Having said that, hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I'm sure many, many people would love to to turn the clock back .... just for a second. ;)
a second. ;)

There's been no mention of frozen veg ?
In some cases it is more nutritional , convenient and cheaper than fresh
But i suppose you need enough fresh produce to freeze it , plus transport and other costs would be more expensive as it is heavier and needs to be kept frozen
Its surprising how now there is a shortage of it the whole of the UK has suddenly become health conscious

Spain got a mention for weather woes as did Africa and then it said that UK crop growers were not producing as much as they couldn't afford to turn the heating on in their agricultural tents. Can't see brexit would be a factor but I suppose some media outlets have their own narrative they try to push on listeners or readers.

It stated the more complex supply chains that now exist have also had an effect on imports of said products, that's why there is no significant shortages anywhere else but uk.

And

Independent this morning.

Save British Farming chair Liz Webster said: “The reason that we have food shortages in Britain, and that we don’t have food shortages in Spain – or anywhere else in the European Union – is because of Brexi..

Former Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King also pinned the blame on the UK’s departure from the EU.

“I hate to say it, but it’s a sector that’s been hurt horribly by Brexit,” ” he told LBC.

Tescos in the Republic of Ireland are saying they have supply issues so that can't be brexit. The impact of brexit on the border rules regarding the import of fruit and vegetables from the EU will be from Jan 2024 onwards so it seems premature to be blaming brexit now.

Perhaps the poor weather in the EU is as a result of brexit too

I think the farmers union and the ex CE of Sainsburys know more about it than we do.

So if its just bad weather in in Spain why has nowhere else apart from UK experiencing shortages.
Europe has no problem with tomatoes or any other veg.

Perhaps this is the answer.

As we all know it's the opposite.
Do not blame Brexit for anything that goes wrong. :D

There are a number of issues which all combine, Theresa Coffey saying its all down to the weather in Spain is patently wrong. That is not the reason the Netherlands has cut production.

I don't really care about the state of cucumbers in the UK.

But it annoys me when government ministers just lie. If it is the cost of energy, just say so, if they can't get the seeds just say so, if they can't get fertilizer from the Ukraine, just say so.... but don't say it is the same everywhere in Europe.. that is patently wrong and easily proven. It is as if the UK government can't stop lying just for the sake of it.

These shortages have been predicted for some months now.

On Jeremy Vine this morning they mentioned a woman who tried to buy 100 Cucumbers
I like a slice or two but 100 ?

And a farmer who said the Government told her to grow flowers ?
I suppose there are a few you could eat 😁😁
It's going to be hard for Bullies to stop what they are so good at.😁😁
